The Dexter Township Farmland and Open Space Preservation Board meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7 pm at Dexter Township Town Hall. Members of the public are encouraged to participate.
The purpose of the FOSP board is to explore strategies for preserving farmland and open space, to engage the community, and to reach out to farmers with information and options for land preservation. The FOSP Board was once a one-year long exploratory committee called the Open Space and Land Preservation Committee. This committee gave way to the Farmland and Open Space Board as defined by Dexter Township’s Purchase of Development Rights ordinance.
Specific Board objectives include:
Acting as a conduit between Dexter Township residents and the Board of Trustees regarding community needs and expectations related to land preservation
Advising the Township Board on land preservation policies and programs
Exploring land preservation funding options
Focusing especially on farm families to engage these landowners in the committee, and, if they are interested in preserving their farmland, conveying information about their options and alternatives
Supporting special projects and collaborations between landowners and available land preservation programs
